"Every now and then go away, have a little relaxation, for when you come back to your work your judgement will be surer.
Go some distance away because then the work appears smaller and more of it can be taken in at a glance and a lack of harmony and proportion is more readily seen"
Leonardo Da Vinci
Whether you have arrived at this page as an employer wanting to understand the benefits to yourself or your organisation of inviting a therapist into the workplace or as an employee interested in how therapy can benefit you, then you are in the right place.
Holistic therapy can help to:
a create a positive association with the workplace (both subconsciously and consciously)
a provides much needed 'time out' and space to rebalance, after which the recpient often feels more able to cope, more willing and able to get through their tasks. This improves quality of life and wellbeing for the employee which then allows them to give better customer service and enhances relationships with colleagues.
a rebalances not just the body but also the energy system, this is particularly useful for those who deal with demanding or even 'hostile' customers whose energy systems impact and drain those of the worker.
a relaxes, slows/normalises breathing rates which are often increased or restricted due to stress.
a employees receiving treatments on a regular basis begin to look forward to the practitioner going into the workplace.
a employee feels valued and is more willing to give back to their job - really is a 'win win' situation.
a each treatment has particular physical/energetic benefits (please refer to 'treatments' and each individual therapy for further details).
Studies have found that certain occupations are more likely to be linked with high rates of stress, even burnout (this is where the level of stress becomes so acute that the worker can no longer deal with the pressure). Jobs involving the worker dealing with people in a caring or suppportive role such as NHS staff, or dealing with 'hostile' customers such as with law enforcement (Police/Probation/Social Services) can be particularly vulnerable. It is also beneficial for organisations to be aware of stress caused within the home environment and how this may impact in the workplace, particularly if a person is facing stressful situations both at home and work. The personal costs of stress to an individual can be high as it can lead to poor health and deterioration of relationships in the long term if left unaddressed. To the organisation, the costs of stress can sometimes be seen as poor health, work performance and/or increased time spent on sickness leave, absenteeism, poor customer/colleague relations, demotivated, high employee turnover.
Holistic therapies are an enjoyable and effective means of targeting stress, encouraging employees to look after their health and to feel valued.
By encouraging therapies into the workplace, a company can show it's commitment to employee care whilst improving the working envinroment and encouraging a happier more productive workplace.
There are a number of options available for workplace therapy, it is also recommended that you consider timing of treatments to ensure maximium benefit. For example, for those in the teaching profession it may be beneficial to focus treatments around the stress of Ofsted inspections or for other profressions, times of high customer demand.
Option 1 - Employer funded - can be great for morale and employers would be looking for a return on their investment through improved service, productivity or lower rates of absenteeism.
Option 2 - Joint funded - Employer shares cost with employee/subsidises treatments. This can help reduce costs to both parties and helps show a joint commitment to reducing stress and improving work envinroment and function.
Option 3 - Employee funded - workplace location - employee pays the cost with the employer providing location/time for therapy to take place.
